Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking for a relaxing stroll, this trail is a must-visit destination.

When we first visited the Wekiwa springs state park, I wasn’t sure about hiking this trail. But we got a trail map and set out.

Overview of Wekiwa Springs Loop Trail

The Wekiwa Springs Loop Trail is a 6.9-mile hiking trail located in Wekiwa Springs State Park in Central Florida. The trail offers a variety of terrain, including wooded areas, open fields, and boardwalks over wetlands. Hikers enjoy stunning views of the Wekiva River and the surrounding forest.

We enjoyed the opportunity to spot wildlife such as deer, otters, and various bird species. The trail is rated as moderate difficulty and is suitable for hikers of all skill levels. Just make sure you have comfortable walking shoes and full water bottles.

Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is key to enjoying the great outdoors safely.

Trail Difficulty and Length

The Wekiwa Springs Loop Trail is a moderate difficulty trail. The 6.9 miles span sounds long but hike at your own speed. While it is not considered a strenuous hike, it does have some steep inclines and uneven terrain, so hikers should be prepared with appropriate footwear and water. The trail is suitable for hikers of all skill levels, but beginners may want to start with a shorter hike and work their way up to the full loop.

Highlights of the Trail, Including Scenic Views and Wildlife

The Wekiwa Springs Loop Trail offers hikers a chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Central Florida. Along the way, hikers will encounter stunning views of the Wekiva River, lush forests, and a variety of wildlife.

Keep an eye out for deer, wild turkeys, and even the occasional black bear. The trail also features several boardwalks and bridges that offer unique perspectives of the surrounding landscape. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking scenery!

We Enjoyed the Visuals

On our first visit to the trail, we were amazed at the diversity of wildlife that inhabit the area. We encountered several deer, wild turkeys, and even saw a black bear before finally reaching our destination.

The boardwalks provide an opportunity to get close to the river’s edge and enjoy the views from up high. Don’t forget to take some time to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I think this might be the perfect medicine for stress and anxiety!

Rejuvenate All Your Senses

Most of us consider nature trails the perfect way to see nature. And they are. But for me, they are much more. I find that they truly invite all my senses to the experience.

Take a deep breath. The hiking trail weaves through various trees and other plants with that delicious “I’m in nature” freshness. If you live in the city, you notice this difference even more.

While you need to leave nature to the visuals, the fresh air on your face provides all the touch you need. When we were on the hiking trail, a gentle breeze kept us quite refreshed. Some said that at other times the air was more still. But even without the breeze, the trees and lush greenery keep hikers shaded from that hot Florida sunshine.

Enjoy the fresh air, lush greenery, and that back to nature feel. We found that the sprawling oak hammock that cover parts of the main hiking trails kept us shaded and quite comfortable. You might find other hardwood hammock areas, too.

Tips for Hiking the Trail, Including What to Bring and When to Go

Before embarking on the Wekiwa Springs Loop Trail, coming prepared is essential. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes, and bring plenty of water and snacks. Sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended, as the trail can be quite exposed in some areas. I recommend picking up a copy of the trail map, too.

The best time to hike the trail is in the cooler months, from October to April, when temperatures are more mild. Avoid hiking during the hottest parts of the day and be aware of any weather warnings or closures.

Watch the Weather

Florida weather changes quickly in the summer months. Those quick afternoon showers or thunderstorms really do happen. Most native Floridians prefer to start the day a bit early. That way, we take a break if the skies open up in the afternoon. It also helps to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Other weather to consider includes the occasional seasonal tropical storms or hurricanes. The nice part about these types of storms is that we usually have days or weeks notice and can plan for them. If we are expecting severe weather, most areas, including the Wekiva springs state park, close. But be mindful of our weather.

With these tips in mind, you’ll be ready to fully enjoy the beauty of this hidden gem in Central Florida.

If you want to relive your unforgettable moments from your adventures in Wekiwa Springs, an action camera is an essential tool.

With its ability to capture stunning underwater footage, you’ll be able to see the world from a whole new perspective.

The versatility of this camera means you can capture high-quality footage on land or in the water, making it the perfect companion for any adventure.

Whether you’re an avid outdoorsman or just looking for a way to capture your family’s memories, the action camera is the perfect investment.

The video depicts an individual’s journey on the 10 and a half mile hiking trail in State Park Florida. As the hiker treks through the park, they remain cautious of alligators lurking in the area. At one point, they take a break at a backcountry campsite called “Camp Cozy.” The hiker is familiar with the state park and frequently visits, finding solace and tranquility in the peaceful surroundings. The video highlights the park’s potential to serve as a refuge for those going through tough times and seeking a change.
